Okay, so we're in a recession. I think everyone's gotten that memo by now. Not only does it present the normal problems like keeping your job or finding new ones, but it presents a host of other problems. How do you meet a girl when you barely have enough to pay bills? Especially around this area! And when you've met her, how do you date her when your disposable income for the week is $25? Years ago, when my parents were asking about my dating life, I remember saying that it's too expensive to have a girlfriend! So I now present to you, How-to-Meet-a-Girl/Guy-on-Limited-or-No-Money-and-Keep-Them-Once-You-Do. How to meet them: So you are unemployed or underemployed right now and can't afford the lofty hotel roof/patio bar/lounges where the chic and sexy congregate. Fear not! There are many ways to still meet people around. Many different organizations hold networking parties or meet-and-greets at some fun places. Look online for your city and you'll be surprised at the amount of the. If you live in locally, check out Moxieinthecity.net for fun and titillating events. Most of the time, they will have drink specials and everyone there is usually in the same boat. So not only can you drink for cheap, you may find a great contact. Even if you don't, the other people there are also in your position. You don't have to suck up your ego and be chagrined. That hottie next to you is probably someone else who is looking to grow and expand. Feel free to talk about where you want to take your life. If that is even a bit too expensive for you, there are plenty of places to meet people that require no money. If you happen to be unemployed, use this time to go out and meet people during the day. Bring a book or laptop to an outside café. Go peruse your favorite section in the bookstores. Take a tour of the parks in your area. Bring a sketch pad and sketch some local landmarks. Doesn't matter if you can't draw to save your life. I was in Florence and sketched Michelangelo's "David" and it looked like some weird fusion of a bobble-head doll and child's drawing. If you live in a big city, find a follow a group of tourists and see where they take you. I have even left my cell phone at home and just wandered out, seeing where the day took me. (I ended up answering a cell phone left in a cab and found myself in an underground/off-the-grid Korean nightclub, btw. True story!) And don't feel bad that you are unemployed. First off, everyone you meet during the day is, SURPRISE, not at work, so you immediately have something in common. And in these tough economic times, it's not unusual. But when someone asks what you do, don't spend time lamenting your current situation. Instead, talk about what your plans are for the future. So let's say you've met someone and you want to go do fun things with them, but your wallet disagrees with you. If you're a girl, you may have the advantage of the man paying for everything. However, as a guy, it can be a little more difficult. There are many cheap and free things you can do without coming off as a skinflint. (Look it up, good word.) First off, acknowledge your lack of funds. She'll appreciate the honesty instead of trying to figure out why "dinner alfresco" means eating hot dogs from a cart. Women love to know that you are thinking of them and that you are planning things. They don't have to be extravagant to make her feel good. Pitch a tent in your backyard and have a campout complete with a campfire, s'mores and ghost stories. Go to a local toy store and go down each aisle trying out all the toys. Go to a thrift store or Salvation Army and try on fun and silly outfits. Each buy an outfit and go out for the rest of the day in it. Go to a car dealership and test drive some cars. Have fake jobs. Pretend the two of you are secret agents and follow a random person around without being seen. Make up stories about who they are and what they're doing. When spotted or you lose them, find something fun to do right where you are. Go to the park and climb trees; don't be afraid to revert back to your childhood delight at the simple pleasures. Spend an entire day trying to get as many free samples as possible. Attend a lecture, discuss it over coffee. Make up a bingo sheet of people (red hat, person with briefcase, elderly couple) and spend the day walking around, trying to find them all. Pack a picnic basket with tablecloth, candles, silverware, etc… and go to McDonald's. Pretend it's an elegant dinner. You just have to think outside the box. Everyone appreciates someone with fun, creative ideas. So get out there and don't use "no money" as an excuse to sloth it out on your couch. Opportunities abound every day. Go get them! Let's face it: first dates can be trying! It's almost like a job interview, both subjects putting their best face on for the other and hiding their scars. Sometimes it feels like you are just rehashing the same date over and over. Are you one of those people that has lots of first dates but not so many second dates? Did you feel your first date went well and then you didn't hear from the person again? Maybe you fell into one of the following traps. No plan Did you just show up and ask her what she wanted to do? Not a good start. Get a plan in order. If you showed up at your dentist and she asked you what you felt like doing, how would that strike you? It probably wouldn't fill you with confidence. Be a man with a plan. Tell her, "We're going _____." My advice is a coffee shop or something simple, but for heaven's sake, find a cool, funky one. Avoid chains like Starbucks or Panera. Even if it's not her preferred place, you'll get points for having a plan! Not being a leader Genetics plays a big part in our interactions. Not your dad or grandfather's genes; we're talking 10,000 years ago genes. Back when we were hunters and the women were gatherers, our job was to protect and lead. It's still the same way. Women want a bold man to lead them. "I want a MAN!" as you have probably heard women say. Not an overbearing man, but one who is confident. Open doors, ask leading questions and know where you're going and what you're doing. A date that goes too long Sometimes a date can be going so well that you don't want it to end. This can also be a pitfall. Imagine going to a party where you're having a blast. The music is great, the wine is flowing like, well, wine and everyone is talking and is interesting. You think about going but decide to stay longer. Then the alcohol runs out, the person who owns the iPod disconnects it and goes home and all the interesting people leave. There you are, with a warm drink, no music and everyone is just milling around. Once you leave, you have a sour taste in your mouth when you think of the party. Same deal here. We usually recommend an hour for your first date. Get in, get out, and leave them wanting more. A too-complex date "Okay, first we're going to grab a drink at McDrinker's but we have to leave by 8:45 so we can make it in time for the 9 show at the Comedy Club. You wait in line while I go grab movie tickets for the midnight showing of The New Action Movie and I'll meet you at the table. Try to get one near the back in case the show runs long and we need to duck out early." While I applaud your leadership skills, over-scheduling and over-committing is never a good thing. It doesn't give her time to settle in and enjoy herself without thinking of the next thing. Make it fun but relaxing and stress-free. She is there for you; in fact, the whole first date is to get to know each other. If you are doing all this activity, guess what...? By the end of the date you will know as little about her as at the start. Worse, dating is emotional and when our energy and attention unfocused, you are less likely to connect and get to know your date. AKA, it will be your one and only date with her. Trying for a second date Everyone wants a second date. Even before she shows up she is hoping there will be a second date in her future. But if you are trying to set up a second date before the first one is even over, it's not going to look good. First off, you'll come off as desperate. Like you are trying to lock her in before she realizes you aren't worth one. Also, on the other side, what if she agrees and later you find out she's a closet psycho. Leave planning the next date for a phone call a few days later. It is not an interview, and if you treat it as such, you won't meet anyone of quality. Dating should be and is supposed to be fun and not too serious an experience, especially on the first date. Show your lighter side, enjoy the company and only after the date decide if you will call her or not. Guess what, you just might have so much fun together that decision has already been made for you! Ever since Aubrey O'Day got fired from P-Diddy's girl band seems like she is the only one in the spotlight. What happen to the rest of the Danity Kane girls? Who cares right because Aubrey has sure taken over and she is appearing naked everywhere. She has modeled for Playboy, Blender and now she can be seen looking seductive in this hot photoshoot for Slam Magazine. O'Day was discovered in 2004 on the MTV reality show Making the Band 3, founded by Sean "Diddy" Combs, and emerged as the show's breakout star. During Season 2 of Making the Band 3 while the competition was still ongoing, Blender magazine contacted O'Day to pose for their September 2005 issue. The magazine described her as the contestant "who bared calm resolve and tanned hip bones in beating out almost 10,000 girls for the chance at singing and strutting in a P. Diddy–steered girl group". O'Day expressed anxiety about competing to be in the group. "I've been in the 'cut' situation several times," she stated. "It's hard to stand in a room and know that the dream I want is all in [Combs's] hands." O'Day had dropped out of college in order to participate in the competition. She had been thinking of attending Columbia Law. After seeing her dance, Combs was convinced that O'Day had "Black in her family" and further expressed this sentiment after watching her sing a version of "At Last" at a club during Season 1 of the show. This, along with what viewers saw as natural charisma, helped endear her to become a consistent favorite among judges and fans. Former Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync manager Johnny Wright, who served as one of the judges on the show, stated from her first audition in Los Angeles they knew that she was "a star". "It's extreme," O'Day relayed of the competition. "There's a lot of 'I love to be in the spotlight' types—including myself." In response to being told that Combs wanted the type of stars who were stars when they were age 2, O'Day stated, "Well, I was Aubrey when I was 2. A diva from the beginning." UNCL is a new line of men's loungewear that's extra soft and wrinkle-free. Ahmed Mokhtar and Drew Ness, founders of the brand and both USC football players, came up with the concept of UNCL after realizing there were no brands on the market that satisfied their basic need: comfortable clothing that didn't forgo style or fit. Composed of a special cotton/poly/rayon blend, these sweatpants, tees and hoodies are the softest items on the market right now, and every piece of clothing is marked with the brand's signature "U" representing a lifestyle of luxury and leisure. Athletes love them because they're the perfect thing to put on after a rough game, but they are also the perfect thing for any guy to relax in at any time. Celebrity sports fan of the brand include Mark Sanchez, Troy Polamalu, Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco. UNCL is sold online at www.FrshUncl.com, and in select boutiques in Southern California. I love the UNCL hoodie, which I wear all the time while relaxing at home couching out on the weekends. The fabric is definitely soft and feels great on your skin. Finally a men's loungewear line intended for what is really meant to do and that is to make you feel relaxed and casual while you lounge. Christian Bale, at the 2011 Oscars, won best actor in a supporting role for the movie The Fighter. He looked very sharp last night in his black on black tux but that beard could have used a bit of a trim. Mr. Bale has been busy filming The 13 Women of Nanjing in China, but he was overjoyed to return home from overseas to such a warm welcome. He also talked about how soon we can see Batman again, and admitted that he missed co-star Melissa Leo's acceptance speech, because he was having a little too much fun with Dicky. Now that you won the Oscar for this kind of movie, technically does that mean that no more Batman? CB: No. I mean, I'm in the middle of filming a movie in China right now. When I finish the movie in China it's straight on to Batman. So absolutely, much more Batman. We all know how much you love acting but you hate dealing with the press. So what have you learned in these last couple months that you have to deal with more and more press leading up to this night? CB: Well, the beautiful thing about it is I've been in China for the last month. So I actually haven't had to deal with any of it, you know, I've been out of it. I haven't been campaigning. And I always felt like, you know, it really has to be the performance that stands by itself and should be merited upon that and if I would have lost, I would have still said the same. I wouldn't have regretted anything. I would have just applauded whoever won and there's so many wonderful performances out there. Reagan Alexander. CB: Love the hat. Been drinking? Yes. CB: I find myself likewise out in the bar with Dickie and my wife thinking that it was like the other awards where you just walk on in and go out and unfortunately missed Melissa's acceptance speech because they wouldn't let me in. I was literally banging on the door with Dickie going, let us in. And they wouldn't let us in. That was my mistake. I'll know better if I ever return to the Academy Awards. So you missed the F bomb? CB: I missed the F bomb. But, you know, I've laid down many of them myself before. So I think I know what it was all about. Do you have a specific spot that you're going to put this award in your home? CB: I know I'll get home and my daughter will say, thank you very much, and take that and stick it wherever she wants. Also, for those of us who fill out the beards, are you going to miss it when you finish filming the film in China? CB: It will actually be shaved off partway through. Congratulations. Well deserved. CB: Thank you. I don't think anybody does a meltdown on film better than you do. And now that you've done one that's chemically enhanced, I got to ask you, what do you think when you see a real life one like Charlie Sheen? CB: Like I said, I've been in China. Seriously, it's been impossible. Just no idea. I was just wondering, this isn't the first time that you've lost a lot of weight for a role. You did it for RESCUE DAWN. When you accepted to take this role, did you think twice about accepting it because of the physical sacrifice you had to do, and is there any sort of thing that you wouldn't do to yourself physically at this point in your career? CB: I just like the character and it wasn't till a little bit later I said, oh, he's a welterweight, he's a crack head. How many fat crack heads do you see? Then I realized, that's what I have to do. So it came later just by that point, you know, like I always say, I saw something and this has always been I didn't really ever take acting classes. I didn't go to drama school or anything. I always feel like I'm having to make up for that while other people know where they're going really and I'm just sort of winging it. I saw something one time, it was Jimi Hendrix, and I just adore the guy's talent and just raw ability to just communicate through his guitar and I saw something about his fingers just bleeding, just blood dripping off of the strings and I always went, that's it, that's it. You know, that inspires me to no end. So whatever it takes, I feel like I'll do for a movie. But the thing is, a lot of people see it as a gimmick, and it's not a gimmick. You know, they say, hey, give a quiet performance, and you can give a quiet performance and lose a lot of weight. Do you know how much it takes do that? So if it's necessary, I'll do it, you know. I'm getting a little bit older now. I'm starting to recognize if I do too much, there may be no coming back from it. I don't have quite that same mentality which I did only a few years back, where I felt I was invincible and it didn't matter what I did. I was coming through. You know, I have a child now. I just want to really be smart about any other body alterations that I make in the future. I know that too many of them just, you know, there's only so much your body can take. I'm happy that I've done what I've done. Who knows. Maybe that will be the last of it. I've said that a few times before. Thank you so much. Congratulations. CB: Thank you so much.
