Bionism means taking one's inspiration from what is organic to design technologies better suited to the human being. That is exactly what biosun sunglasses do. Alain Mikli and Philippe Starck present the new generation of biosun sunglasses: 9 styles for men attached to comfort and discretion. The 9 new styles are distributed in 3 different families, in accordance with the material used: acetate, metal and injected grilamid. The complementary nature of these materials enables to satisfy the needs of a great number of consumers who give more importance to rich colors, soft materials or lightness. How was your collaboration with Alain Mikli born ?
I felt at once that Alain Mikli was the ideal partner because with such a big nose, he was the only one able to wear 3 pairs of glasses simultaneously. More seriously, I knew very rapidly that he had the gift to work on the object and its essence. For each Starck Eyes collection, we work together at the square root of things to reach the elegance of disappearance. We remove everything to aim for the minimum and we do not fall in the trap of drawing. The starting point is this biomechanical hinge I developed with people in my village's town square watching people exiting the church after mass. What is the particular place of eyewear as a singular object in your designer's universe?
In itself, the product is not important. It makes sense only as a pretext to talk about something else. With eyewear, I can talk about the very essence of our existence. A piece of eyewear is neither a fashion item nor an accessory. It fills a mandatory function by repairing a disability. In a world that asphyxiates us with products, the only purpose of which is to be sold, eyewear belongs to the sphere of what is fundamental i.e. it is designed and manufactured to the benefit of human beings. What are your sources of inspiration when you design eyewear?
My ambition has always been very clear and courageous: make people belonging to my cultural tribe more beautiful and sexier with the minimum style and without a logo so that they can blossom with their own arguments and not those of a marketing brand. To achieve that, I took my inspiration in the human body and more precisely the clavicle. This way, the revolutionary hinge –it is micro-biomechanical- that we developed works similarly to a human clavicle and by essence is in natural harmony with the movement of the body and therefore fits better everyone's morphology to become an extension of the individual. Actually, it denotes a theme I have always been pursuing: dematerialization and bionism. Eventually, Starck Eyes is not about design but about a philosophy. Isn't it the nature of design to transform the symbolic and cultural dimensions of glasses as an object?
Indeed, design is always a pretext, a way to serve and thus deserve the right to exist. Starck Eyes is not about fashion. With Starck eyes, we are anticipating the disappearance of the fashion system. We are in the future reality: out of all the objects I have designed so far Starck Eyes is the best designed, the object that fits best what I call tomorrow's non-product. An ethical object that reflects the elegance of intelligence in which the brand serves only as a support of what you can see. How do you contemplate the Starck Eyes collection in 10 years?

John Lewis, a menswear retail store will have a new brand identity for their private label. John Lewis Menswear private label reached out to Egelnick and Webb to develop a brand identty for their new contmeporary label; John Lewis and Co. launching 13th September. John Lewis wanted to create a new menswear range of authentic clothing with a heritage feel, timeless and classic. Using premium yarns and fabrics with contemporary tailoring and styling to target a younger, more stylish and discerning menswear market. John Lewis approached Egelnick and Webb to create the brand identity, based on their reputation working with fashion brands; House of Holland, Matthew Williamson, Jonathan Kelsey, Jaeger (having created Boutique by Jaeger brand recently), and global branding for Samsonite and Royal Salute Whiskey. The combination of high fashion design and global brand strategy perfectly fitted John Lewis' ambition for a menswear overhaul.  Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo Like most of Sony Ericsson's predecessors, the new XPERIA Neo also comes with a bit of a personality problem. The XPERIA Play was firm with its promise of gaming ambitions while the XPERIA Arc also promised to put the prowess of any of Sony's living room atmosphere into a pocket sized package. The XPERIA Neo on the other hand provides a promise of an Android phone for every person. Check out the rest of the review for the XPERIA Neo. The XPERIA Neo has a customized Android 2.3.3 Operating System which is an upgrade from the previous XPERIA Arc. Although, Arc owners can still download the updated Android version as it is available to them and is compatible with the model as well. This means that there is no real upgrade or software advantage that the Neo has in comparison with the Play and the Arc. The one think we love about Sony Ericsson phones is their color themes. Their phones are always full of different hues of blue and silver. The sad part is that there is no real difference in the functionality between the Neo and the Arc. While opening applications, there is minimal delay in their start up, but then again the Neo is still a single core phone and does not have a dual processor built into it yet. The truth finally is that there is no real difference between the Arc and the Neo and after all is said and done, We think the Arc looks a lot cooler than the Neo.  Jaguar XF  Jaguar XF Well, here's another wagon that us guys here in the United States are never going to get and are simply going to lust about. There are quite a few cars that uphold their brand mark of European technology and therefore none of us are ever going to get to see these cars as they never cross over here. Back to the review though, the car that none of us are ever going to see is the Jaguar XF Estate. Its true, this was the confession of the XF's vehicle engineer manager. The car has not been released as yet so the only other detail that us guys here have received is that the company claims that the car will be a bit more different in terms of character and panache. We're not sure though what they mean by this, whether they're referring to a giant rump being the only standardized thing about the XF series while everything else is different. We're also not sure about the release date for this beauty since Jaguar has been claiming to release it "sometime soon" ever since 2009. However, last December, the company's global brand director promised the release of the model "shortly". With Mercedes being the last European company to offer the United States a decent wagon, we would most definitely like to see how the Jaguar XF performs next to its close competitors like the new E Class/ 5 Series Estates or the A6 Avant.
