LES SMOKINGS - MUGLER RE-STREAM
This Wednesday 10 August 2011 from 18:00 BST, we will re-stream the unedited footage of our fourth and final Les Smokings residency. Tune in to watch as Nicola Formichetti and Romain Kremer of Parisian powerhouse Mugler take over our Bruton Place studio to create a futuristic interpretation of the classic tuxedo, riffing on the Smoke and Mirrors theme of the SHOWstudio Shop exhibition Practice to Deceive: Smoke and Mirrors in Fashion, Fine Art and Film. Laser light beams, fluttering wind-effect polythene and a suit mashed together from glitter, armour plates, latex and slime - the making of Mugler's Le Smoking is a truly extraordinary experience, like none we've ever seen before. Don't miss this unique fashion performance from a collective at the forefront of contemporary fashion's current drive into futuristic fetishism. [more]

MING XI COUTURE 2011
The process film charting the two-day progress of Ming Xi Couture 2011 - Nick Knight's latest haute couture shoot for V magazine - is now on site. Uncovering the action from behind-the scenes each day as Sam McKnight tweaked the hair, Petros Petrohilos perfected the make-up and Jonathan Kaye styled Ming in fashions from Atelier Versace, Valentino, Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel and Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci, these films offer a unique glimpse backstage for anyone who missed the live stream first time around.

ARIES, 2010
Chunky knits fall in and out of fashion - but few take it to the extreme of art director and set designer Shona Heath, who fashioned this beyond-oversized aran knit for Tim Gutt's Horoscope of Style editorial in the December 2010 edition of British Vogue. Intricately knitted (and purled) from inch-thick strands of wool in the most traditional fashion, this Paul Bunyan-scale sweater is presented alongside a javelin-sized pair of wooden needles - decorative only, we must add. A mind-boggling, scale-dwarfing example of the art director's craft at its finest. [more]

LE SMOKING, 2011
The creative team behind the revived house of Mugler took to the LiveStudio at Bruton Place on Friday 29th July to create an astonishing addition to the SHOWstudio Shop’s collection of smoking jackets. Mugler’s Le Smoking is a multi-layered, multi-coloured jacket inspired by the theme of evolution. The jacket and the series of ‘ephemeral’ outfits mirror the artistic brilliance of Romain Kremer and Nicola Formichetti – two of the creative geniuses behind the brand. The unconventional materials used to manufacture the jacket provide an interesting angle to our exhibition Practice to Deceive: Smoke and Mirrors in Fashion, Fine Art and Film. Mugler’s take on the menswear classic is a decidedly powerful finale to our smoking jacket series. [more]
FROM THE ARCHIVE
TO LEE, WITH LOVE, NICK
As the Metropolitan Museum of Art's exhibition Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty draws to a record-breaking close, we felt the moment was right to step back into our archive and examine the fashion film To Lee, With Love - a tribute to McQueen's life and career. Celebrating the visionary designer's profound imagination and extraordinary designs, long time friend and collaborator Nick Knight created this fashion film in commemoration of the British designer who undoubtedly ranks as one of the greatest of his generation. Directed by Knight, edited by Ruth Hogben, styled by Edward Enninful and set to an exclusive soundtrack by Björk, this unique visual tribute features a curated selection of landmark McQueen pieces drawn from his ground-breaking, establishment-shaking sixteen-year career.
