LES SMOKINGS - HAYWARD RE-STREAM

The re-stream of the third installment of our Les Smokings series kicks off at 18:00 BST this evening, giving viewers a second chance to watch as Ritchie Charlton of London tailoring powerhouse Hayward creates a bespoke tuxedo before your very eyes. Originally broadcast as part of our most recent SHOWstudio Shop exhibition Practice to Deceive: Smoke and Mirrors in Fashion, Fine Art and Film, Hayward's residency was inspired by the concept of dispelling the 'smoke and mirrors' of the fashion industry, giving viewers an unprecedented insight behind the process of creation. The finely tailored suit, the result of his three day residency was modelled by Primal Scream frontman and Hayward client, Bobby Gillespie. Watch the intricate outlines and cutting of fabric evolve before your eyes into a finely tailored suit, the pinnacle of men’s sartorial elegance, across the next three days.

The re-stream of Hayward's Les Smokings residency begins at 18:00 BST today.

THE GLOW AND THE GLOOM
An homage to Henri-Georges Clouzot's unfinished masterpiece L'enfer - an aborted exploration of jealousy and madness fascinating in the fragments left behind - our latest fashion film, The Glow And The Gloom takes a suitably hypnotic, colour-suffused and obsessive look at this season. Created by filmmaker Marie Schuller and showcasing some of the finest fashions from Spring/Summer 2011 including Alexander McQueen, Louis Vuitton and Richard Nicoll, this filmic short is a mesmerising glance at some of spring's greatest hits, as well as an ode to one of cinema's lost masterpieces [more]

FASHION, 2010
Curiously titled FashionPeter Saville's monolithic sculpture epitomises the significance of conceptual change in art making. Reminiscent of Marcel Duchamp's infamous 'readymade' artpiece Fountain, which saw a urinal placed on its side and essentially 're-made', Saville too, successfully alters the perception of art. The virginal white galvanised steel framework encases pristine leather whilst severe eyelets serve as simplified corset hooks. The sexual frisson felt by even the most prudish of Victorians when laced into their stays is amplified here, in a one-off artwork guaranteed to get pulses racing... [more]

DESIGN_DOWNLOAD YOHJI YAMAMOTO
Following his recent retrospective exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum, we felt time was ripe to reexamine internationally-acclaimed designer Yohji Yamamoto's enigmatic contribution to our design_download series of high fashion dressmaking patterns. Allowing viewers to download and make up into an exclusive garment, free of charge, Yamamoto injects a typical note of mystery and intellectual curiosity to his offering - no instructions are provided save a comment from Yamamoto himself, and the visual clues offered through Nick Knight's photographs of the final piece. Explore Yamamoto's design_download and construct a garment yourself. [more]

Les Smokings - Mugler's Evolutionary Vision

Laser-light beams, fluttering wind-effect polythene and a suit mashed together from glitter, armour plates, latex paint and slime - our Mugler Le Smoking is rapidly becoming a one-off experience! 'Evolution' was the theme behind the Mugler team's Le Smoking, according to menswear head Romain Kremer. And it's certainly becoming a...
